Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Installation
- Install, assemble, align, and commission mechanical equipment and production machinery.
- Support the installation of new machines, production lines, conveyors, mixers, hammer mills, pellet mills, elevators, and other feed mill equipment.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
- Ensure equipment is properly aligned, assembled, and ready for safe operation.
- Support equipment relocation, modification, and plant expansion projects.
2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Carry out routine preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Inspect equipment regularly to identify wear, damage, leaks, vibration, and other potential faults.
- Replace worn or damaged components such as bearings, belts, chains, gears, shafts, seals, and couplings.
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Maintain proper records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment breakdowns.
3. Mechanical Repair & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults affecting production equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment involving bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, drives, shafts, chains, belts, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic components.
- Investigate recurring equipment failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Support emergency breakdown maintenance and restore equipment to safe operating condition.
- Work closely with Electrical Technicians and Production Operators to resolve equipment-related problems.
4. Inspection & Testing
- Conduct routine inspection of mechanical equipment and plant machinery.
- Perform equipment testing after installation, maintenance, or repairs.
- Check machine alignment, vibration, lubrication, temperature, noise, and overall operating condition.
- Identify unsafe or abnormal equipment conditions and report them promptly.
- Ensure repaired and maintained equipment is safe and fit for production before returning it to operation.
5. Fabrication & Welding
- Carry out basic mechanical fabrication and modification works as required.
- Fabricate and repair machine components, brackets, supports, guards, platforms, chutes, and other mechanical structures.
- Carry out basic welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, and fitting activities.
- Modify equipment and components to improve machine performance and reliability.
- Ensure fabricated components are properly fitted, aligned, and safe for use.
6. Equipment Operation & Support
- Operate mechanical equipment when required for testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Develop a good understanding of the operation of feed mill machinery.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify early signs of mechanical failure.
- Support production teams in resolving operational issues related to mechanical equipment.
- Ensure machines are operated and maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company procedures.
7. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all mechanical maintenance and workplace safety procedures.
- Apply proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before carrying out maintenance work.
- Use appropriate PPE and maintain safe working practices at all times.
- Ensure machine guards and other safety devices are properly installed and maintained.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the workshop and maintenance areas.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and potential hazards.
8. Independent Working & Team Support
- Carry out assigned maintenance and repair activities with minimal supervision.
- Take ownership of mechanical breakdowns from diagnosis through completion.
- Work effectively with Electrical Technicians, Production Operators, QC, and other departments.
- Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, and plant maintenance activities.
- Participate in shift, weekend, or emergency maintenance activities when required.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- OND, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in mechanical maintenance.
- Previous experience working in a poultry/animal feed mill is mandatory.
- Hands-on experience with feed mill machinery and production equipment.
- Practical experience in mechanical installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in fabrication, welding, fitting, and mechanical equipment modification.
- Good knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, shafts, belts, chains, couplings, conveyors, and other mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
