Job Summary:

Responsible for performing planned preventive maintenance activities, repairing, and servicing all electrical equipment and systems essential to drilling operations. Conducts effective supervision of electrical crew and tools utilization while considering the safety of personnel, the environment, and equipment to maximize drilling operation efficiency.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

  • Diagnosing failures and malfunctions in electrical equipment and systems, utilizing diagnostic tools, equipment manuals, and technical documentation to troubleshoot complex issues and implementing effective solutions to restore functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Study and understand different electrical schematics, logic diagrams to gather data from instruments, interpret past and present performance to understand trends and ensure problems are solved.
  • Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to technical maintenance support team.

Equipment Maintenance & Operations:

  • Maintaining the reliability and integrity of rig power generation and distribution equipment such as generators, engine controls units, SCR’s, VFD’s, UPS’s, transformers, etc.  
  • Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of different electrical components & systems on the rig, including but not limited to HVAC systems, communication systems, consoles & control panels, DC and AC drilling motors & auxiliaries, pump motors etc.  
  • Verification and inspection of third-party equipment and installations.
  • Ensure new equipment installations on the drilling unit are managed by an MOC Synergi case where appropriate by highlighting the potential need to Direct Supervisor and OIM.    
  • Conducting and interpreting power calculations, power factor, insulation tests and positive relay tests as required to verify the proper equipment operation as per regulatory and company standards before it is put into service.
  • Communicates with and consult the technical maintenance support team to their work areas where repairs are necessary.
  • Understands and utilizes the Maintenance System for tracking, monitoring, and managing the maintenance and performance of equipment within the rig.
  • Communicates to RMS and OIM when time to access equipment is not adequate to perform the tasks fully.

Materials & Equipment:

  • Plan and coordinate with the OIM/RMS and other departments to secure equipment’s and perform safety inspections prior to any operations or major activity such as rig moves, running & retrieving BOP.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate electrical requirements of the statutory and regulatory bodies including the classification society are adhered to and records maintained.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts, consumables, and supplies for electrical equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained to support ongoing operations and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinating with procurement and logistics teams to procure spare parts and replacement components as needed, ensuring timely delivery, availability & compliance with the class & certification requirements.
  • Ensure Switch rooms, VFD or SCR rooms have no flammable materials contained within them and that these areas are not used as storage areas. Insulating mats will be maintained and kept free of grease and dirt. Wherever possible these areas should be restricted to technical personnel only. Electric shock recovery kits will be maintained and accessible.

Rig Move:

  • Carries out related duties to prepare the rig for towing, ensure all electrical equipment for rig move is prepared and maintaining the integrity and reliability of the electrical systems and equipment throughout prior, during & after the rig move.

Client Management:

  • Promote and maintain an effective working relationship with other departments, third party personnel and Client Representatives.
  • Responds to client requests and needs concerning materials, equipment, and personnel after getting adequate management approval.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintains proper logs and records of all electrical maintenance activities, equipment inspections and repairs in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.  
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, including daily equipment status reports, incident reports, job safety analysis for hazardous activities.
  • Ensure the permit to work and isolation systems are followed and applied.
  • Supply information to assist in the development of maintenance and repair budgets.

 People Management & Development:

  • Provide clear instructions to their team regarding their duties, responsibilities, and any necessary safety precautions prior to commencing work.
  • Mentor, develop and train their team to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Identifies opportunities for skill and career advancement, works to support the professional growth of their team.
  • Ensure their team receives the necessary required training to perform their duties safely and effectively through on-the-job training, and participation in safety drills and exercises.
  • Support, promote and actively participate in ADES’s Competency Assurance Program for their team.
  • Evaluates the performance of their team on constant and fair feedback basis, identify areas for improvement, drive ADVANCE process to formalize a performance management culture.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Formal training as an electrician in the form of a multi-year apprenticeship / training program is required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of working experience in the electrical field in drilling and workover operations and have demonstrable supervisory skills.
  • Preferred to have working experience on Offshore rigs.

Skills/Competencies Required:

  • Fluent in the English language (Spoken & Written)
  • PC literate in Microsoft Office
  • Situation Awareness, Communication, Teamwork, detail oriented, Problem Solving.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly climbing (stairs, ladders).
  • Regularly bending, twisting, and standing.
  • Ability to work outdoors under all extreme weather conditions (Noise / Humidity / Cold / Heat).
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work  day or night shift as required with 12 hours minimum shift.
