The Hospital Facility Manager is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency, safety, compliance, and sustainability of the hospitals physical infrastructure. This role oversees all facility-related operations to support uninterrupted clinical services, patient safety, regulatory adherence, and a high-quality healing environment.
The Facility Manager leads engineering, maintenance, housekeeping, security, waste management, and environmental services, ensuring that all hospital systems meet Nigerian healthcare standards and international best practices.
Oversee daily operations of all hospital facilities including:
Wards and inpatient units
Outpatient departments
Operating theatres
Laboratories and diagnostic areas
Administrative offices
Ensure optimal performance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, medical gas systems, and backup power infrastructure.
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
Ensure uninterrupted power supply systems (generators, UPS, backup systems).
Supervise housekeeping, laundry, waste disposal, landscaping, and security operations.
Maintain proper biomedical equipment environment standards in collaboration with clinical engineering teams.
Ensure full compliance with:
Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) facility standards
National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and HMO requirements
Nigerian fire safety regulations
Environmental and waste management laws
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards
Conduct regular safety audits, facility inspections, and risk assessments.
Implement and oversee emergency preparedness plans (fire drills, disaster response, evacuation protocols).
Ensure proper medical waste segregation and disposal in line with healthcare regulations.
Maintain documentation required for accreditation and regulatory audits.
Develop and manage the annual facilities operations and maintenance budget.
Monitor operational expenses and implement cost-optimization strategies.
Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
Ensure value-for-money procurement of facility equipment and supplies.
Track energy consumption and implement efficiency improvement initiatives.
Plan and supervise renovation, expansion, and construction projects.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure healthcare facility compliance.
Oversee installation of new systems (HVAC, electrical upgrades, medical gas systems).
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to quality standards.
Support future infrastructure planning aligned with hospital growth strategy.
Lead and supervise engineers, technicians, maintenance staff, cleaners, and security personnel.
Establish performance standards and KPIs for facilities teams.
Conduct training on safety protocols and operational best practices.
Promote a culture of accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Foster strong collaboration between facilities and clinical departments.
Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on:
Maintenance schedules
Compliance status
Incident reports
Energy consumption
Equipment uptime
Monitor key performance indicators such as:
Facility uptime reliability
Response time to maintenance issues
Safety incident rates
Budget adherence
Patient and staff satisfaction related to facility environment
Bachelors degree in Facilities Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
Professional certifications such as IFMA, NEBOSH, COREN, or PMP are an advantage.
7–10 years progressive facilities management experience, preferably within a tertiary hospital or large healthcare facility.
Strong knowledge of Nigerian healthcare infrastructure standards and safety regulations.
Experience managing hospital MEP systems, generators, HVAC, and compliance audits.
Proven leadership and project management capability.
