Role objective

The Assistant Radiographer supports the Radiographer in running a safe, efficient X-ray room. You will prepare examination rooms, help patients move to and from imaging safely and with dignity, assist during procedures, maintain equipment, and keep patient records accurate. This is a hands-on role for someone early in their imaging career who wants to build experience in a high-volume diagnostic setting. All clinical documentation and patient flow runs through BeaconOS, our own platform, which you will be trained on during onboarding.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Center Manager and working alongside the Radiographer, responsibilities include:

Patient interaction

  • Welcome each patient into the examination room and help them settle in comfortably

  • Explain what will happen in plain language and reassure patients who are anxious

  • Observe patients throughout their time in the imaging area and escalate any concerns

  • Communicate patient information clearly without expressing alarm about findings

Patient movement and positioning

  • Transport patients between the waiting area and the X-ray room, including those with limited mobility

  • Assess whether a patient needs help undressing for an examination and assist where required, protecting privacy and dignity at all times

  • Help the Radiographer move and handle patients from trolleys, beds, and chairs onto examination tables

  • Position and immobilise patients on the examining table as directed

Assisting with procedures

  • Set up examination rooms and confirm all necessary equipment is ready

  • Monitor the video display of the area being captured and adjust density or contrast to improve image quality

  • Prepare and administer oral or injected contrast media as directed

  • Apply radiation protection devices around the exposed area

  • Wear protective clothing, including an X-ray apron, whenever working with the machine

Equipment care

  • Maintain image processing systems and accessory equipment

  • Prepare and position equipment correctly before each procedure

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and minor repairs, and report faults promptly

  • Ensure proper waste disposal and sanitation of the X-ray room

Records and clerical support

  • Enter imaging data and sequences into BeaconOS accurately

  • Take thorough patient medical histories

  • Record, process, and maintain patient data and treatment records

  • Answer phone calls, file patient records, and support day-to-day administration of the unit

Requirements

  • OND, HND, or equivalent qualification in Radiography, Medical Imaging, or a related health science

  • Minimum of 1 year's experience in a hospital, imaging unit, or diagnostic centre

  • Understanding of radiation safety practice and willingness to follow protection protocols without exception

  • Physically able to assist with patient transfer and positioning

  • Careful, accurate approach to records and patient detail

  • Computer literate and comfortable working in a digital record system — we train every new hire on BeaconOS, our own clinical platform, during onboarding

Preferred

  • Prior experience assisting in an X-ray unit

  • Familiarity with digital radiography and image processing systems

  • Experience in a high-volume outpatient or diagnostic centre environment

  • Working toward professional registration in radiography or medical imaging

Benefits

  • Health insurance and complementary health services at MDaaS diagnostic clinics

  • Pension remittance

  • Paid leave and sick days

  • Monthly team activities

  • Professional development opportunities
